After my recent foundation disaster left my skin in a seriously poor state I quickly dashed to Boots to pick up some new products to help it on its road to recovery. I picked up two products, the first of which was Effaclar duo, a blogger favourite and secondly Nip & fab's Glycolic fix serum. Together they sounded like they were going to be the perfect skin fixing duo.
Effaclar duo
I had such high hopes for this product. I've lost count of the amount of positive reviews I've read and I was really hoping it would help shift those horrible little under the skin bumps on my chin. I decided to use it on just one half of my face, in the evening, and see how well it worked and whether or not there would be a difference between each side after a couple of weeks use.
A couple of days in I woke up with a couple of sore, pretty large bumps under the skin. They weren't blemishes as such but they were very angry and red and looked like they could develop in to blemishes. Nevertheless I continued with my routine as I just put this down to a purging phase, which honestly I was expecting. Unfortunately my skin didn't improve at all. The sore bumps kept getting bigger and more sore and after 2 weeks it had made my skin so bad that I had to stop using it. It had actually become painful to apply foundation, remove make up, and wash my face etc. I was so disappointed as I had read such glowing reviews and in theory it is a great product but I guess it is another example of different things for different people.
I'm still unsure whether what I experienced was just an extreme purging phase or if something in the ingredients was aggravating my skin but it's safe to say I won't be using it again!
Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix serum
I hadn't heard too much about this product before I bought it but designed with 4% Glycolic acid to resurface and smooth out the skin it sounded promising. I've been using this after cleansing and toning each evening on areas where I have larger pores and it's been working well so far. It's taken a couple of months use to see noticeable results but my skin is more even and my pores are smaller and less congested. Not a miracle worker but it works..
Such a shame these products haven't worked! I've seen mixed reviews on this product - still undecided as to whether or not I should buy it or not... Something to ponder on
ReplyDeleteI have a new post about You Beauty box, would love it if you could check it out :)

it's probably worth trying because if it works for you ( from reading reviews) it sounds like a total miracle worker. ooooh love a good beauty box! I'll definitely check it out, thanks for letting me know xx
DeleteThe Nip + Fab serum sounds great! I don't know if I've used Glycolic acid before but everyone seems to like products that contain in.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a shame that the Effaclar Duo didn't work for you. The angry red spots you mention are exactly the type of spots it has the potential to get rid of.

I find it works really well for me. I just couldn't hack it any more :( I wasn't using it on particularly spotty skin, just bumpy skin but it made it sooo sore and horrible I really didn't want to use it any more. Maybe I should've manned up and stuck it out some more!xx
DeleteAh man, that's too bad about the Effaclar duo. Now i don't know if I should try it...I think I will ask for samples first! Thanks for the honest review! :)

youre welcome! Always a good idea to ask for samples, I wish I had first!! xx
DeleteI adore honest reviews. Its refreshing to hear it. I have seen a mixture of reviews concerning the effaclar duo and to be completely honest with you I have recently come to realise that I am allergic to everything I have tried from their range! So you aren't on your own! I'm floating with you in the very same boat! :) xx

aw no :( it's awful being allergic to things isn't it?! I'd love to have that sort of skin that can cope with anything xx
DeleteI recently had a bad reaction to a skincare product so I've desperately been trying to find things to calm mine down, too. I adore Effaclar Duo, although it most definitely doesn't work for everybody; I'm one of the lucky ones! I haven't used the Nip & Fab serum though so I might look into it now - thanks for the heads up! xx
ReplyDeleteah I'm so jealous! compltely fell in love with the idea of so I'm super gutted it did nothing for me :(
Deleteaw no, sending you losts of sympathy! I know how much of a pain these reactions can be!xx
The Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix serum sounds like it is worth investing in.
