Beauty Mishaps

 photo mishaps_zpsccb375c3.jpg

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I've had my fair share of beauty mishaps. Looking back at my teenage self I often cringe when I think of some of the hair styles and make up looks I thought I could pull off. I wish someone had told me to step away from the fake tan, to lay off the tweezers and to avoid Footballer's wife extensions at all costs.
It seems that teenage me rarely got it right and when I actually sat down and thought it about it seems I've committed some serious beauty crimes.

Foundation.
I remember my first foundation purchase so well. I was about 15 and decided L'oreals Infalliable foundation was the one for me. I also picked up the matching concealer; both several shades too dark. Now I wasn't a girl that was affraid to trowel it on and 'go big or go home' was definitely my motto. I would actually put concealer all over my face, then a layer of foundation and then another layer of concealer over the top just for some extra coverage. It's honestly a wonder that my face didn't just crack but props to L'oreal - it did stay put through 6 hours of school. As for shades I was always way off. I remember a favourite of mine was a Max Factor one in the shade 'sand' - Oompa Loompah and proud. When I eventually decided it was time I left it to the experts and got shade matched it turned out I was more of an alabaster. Ooops

Hair
I've always had a love for changing my hair. Back when I was a wannabe Avril Lavigne I begged my mum for weeks to let me have blue or red hair so I could unleash my inner 'punk'. Thankfully she was more sensible than me and never let that one happen. My worst hair disaster was probably the mullet. I have absolutely no idea what possesed me to take Rod Stewart as my hair idol but I did. Even my hairdresser was against the idea but I must admit I thought I was the absolute bees knees and really enjoyed spiking it up each morning before school. I don't actually have a surviving photo of the mullet or else I'd give you all a giggle, but for these of you who might be contemplating the snip, it's an absolute bugger to grow out. Do. Not. Do. It.
After realising short hair was not for me I decided the next best thing was WAG like extensions - way past boob length, with a platinum blonde patch down one side. Somebody bar me from the hairdressers ASAP!

Fake tan
Fake tan and I haven't always got along. I've lost count of the times I've sported stripy legs for PE, orange palms and mottled I need to exfoliate skin. Back in my sixth form days I actually bought a spray tanning machine and I would insist on being doused in the stuff several times a week. Whilst I'm all for a golden glow mine was so intense I could be classed as my own light source.

Eyebrows
I used to be pretty proud of my brows and i considered them plucked and tweezed to perfection. Unfortunately my definition of perfection was a little off and being a little overzealous with the tweezers meant my brows stopped somewhere above the centre of my eyes and trailed off. Think tadpole without a tail.

Eyeliner
Another nemesis. Still to this day I suck at eyeliner application but I've moved on from the days of circling my peepers several times with the thickest most black kohl known to man. My driving license photo stands as testimony that less is certainly more in the eyeliner department and racoon eyes are nicht gut! My love for black did wain eventually but that was only to be replaced by a lovely lilac Barry M version in stead.....

  1. I think I was quite lucky with my growing into makeup as I never wore that much so not a huge amount could go wrong! There were some questionable shades of dazzle dust used occasionally though...

  2. This really made me laugh! I went through the orange phase for while (good old Dream Matte Mousse) and I was also guilty of wearing too much eyeliner, it took me a while to learn how to apply it properly haha xx

  3. Ahah, this was so much fun to read! I don't remember too many disaster apart from a few months of crazy black liner all around the eyes... And the fun thing is that I used to wear a lovely purple one in a more subtle way before that phase! xx

  5. I didn't wear much makeup until I was out of high school, so luckily I learn what to do and not what to do vicariously. I was very gutsy when it came to dark shadows for night time, though, which is actually something I wish I still was.
